"But I am one helluva stud!"

Jon Voight plays a naive male prostitute with a cowboy schtick. Bound for glory he sets off for the Big Apple, but it's really not working for him; The city proves to be gritty, unforgiving and at times brutal. Ratso (Dustin Hoffman), a sickly con-man, shows him a few survival techniques and the two develop an unlikely companionship. The film is depressing and funny, with a poignant ending. Voted Best Picture in 1969, it's just something I needed to get under my belt.
