VL "Good Citizenship": A Reflection
Beyond creating a product to sell, a voting poster should be like a fair argument with good friend. These posters ought to go beyond P. Diddy's "Vote or Die" (he embodies what media dictates is 'cool' or 'not cool' i.e. the Burger King commercial, "Tell 'em Diddy said Burger King is open late"), and I don't want to "sell" people the idea of voting. I want to piss them off (Nichelle Narcisi's "Except You"), or wake them up. Not to say that designers ought to rebel against all that is strictly "objective," but we should be educated and understand our own ethical and politic values and implement them into our personal style & goals. In this way, even if we are working for a client, we can still send our own messages.
